Donate to provide BRSAR the funds needed to continue helping our community and beyond.

Our philosophy at BRSAR is that the focus should be on the dogs

– the humans are just the drivers to get them to and from the trails.

Help BRSAR raise the money desperate need by making a tax-deductible gift today.

SHORT-TERM GOALS:
  • Finish paying for Ginger’s cancer treatment veterinarian bill.
  • Provide the funds to perform the eye surgery needed for Dani.
  • Complete the deployment vehicle modifications and field the vehicle.

MID-TERM GOALS:
  • Renovate current kennels and fencing to provide a more safe, secure and comfortable living environment for the hounds.
  • Create training trails and obstacles on the 21 acres of property where BRSAR is based.

LONG-TERM GOALS:
  • Develop a trust fund whereby at least base salaries can be paid to staff.
  • Construct a multi-purpose building capable of hosting training events, a new kennel facility and RV parking.

Current training program for new pups and current Bloodhounds

    • When we are not responding to calls, the Bloodhounds are worked with on negative and positive scent detection
    • Practice trails are laid in different areas/ properties for the Bloodhounds to track and find different dogs.
    • Handlers are worked with on sharpening their skills with the dogs
    • The training and refinement for the Bloodhounds and handlers is a never ending process, as both need to be confident and conditioned to different environments and situations.
    • At this time, we do not have any young pups being introduced or trained for tracking.

Volunteers have been very enthusiastic about stepping up to accept positions of responsibility in the daily operation and fund raising for Black River Search and Rescue, Inc.

We expanded our team with three young donated Bloodhound pups – Dani and Codi, and then Pippa – who are rapidly learning their trade. Dani has become a very reliable and experienced tracker, with multiple finds to her credit. Pippa and Codi are showing great potential in training and on lost pet cases.

We are able to contact and field up to 20 search volunteers locally with people who are experienced with pet SAR. For searches out of the local region, Karl has a motor home that he uses to pull his Jeep that is constantly equipped for operations, is used as a base of operations for rest and local coordination. Karl and the hounds often spend numerous days and nights away from his home on search operations.

We are raising money with the goal to be able to continue providing the best SAR operations possible without having to expend personal funds. We are also accepting donations of equipment and funds to purchase equipment and technology to support our searches.

We have obtained a truck that is being modified to serve as our new deployment vehicle. Once completed, it will provide a safe and environmentally comfortable environment for the hounds to travel and rest in during operations. It also has the space to transport 5 adult humans as well. We do need to raise a little more money to make the final modifications before we can deploy it.

During the 2018 calendar year from Jan just through October, BRSAR responded to, and assisted in, over 500 calls for assistance for lost dogs, horses and humans.
